Background & Experience

Hello! My name is Madison Hollis (she/her/hers) and I first began my journey as a Clinician getting my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Family Studies and Human Development from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. It was there that I focused my studies on relationship and family dynamics. I published research about cohabitating couples and how emotional awareness influences overall relationship satisfaction. I was also part of a research team for a study concerning family dynamics, stress, and illness. By gaining this knowledge and experience, I actively incorporate and focus on close relationships and human connections while working with clients in Therapy. We have so much influence from our Family of Origin that can cause for difficulties in our adult life and I specialize in working through challenges associated with trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management, and life transitions. I am informed and knowledgable with regards to struggles associated with non-monogamous relationships and kink. I am a member of and ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and knowledgeable about struggles associated with identity.

I moved to Denver, CO to earn my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Denver. I also completed an internship at a community mental health center working with individuals and families with a variety of presenting issues and diagnoses. The facility allowed me the opportunity to receive training in Family Systems Theory (FST) which aids in my knowledge of Family of Origin issues. In my work through the program, I developed a trauma-focused lens that focuses on the mind body connection and holistic process of healing. It was here that I developed my love for mindfulness-based work and growth through self-acceptance. While participating as a research assistant, I developed a systems based lens while assessing programs in the Denver County Jail.

Since moving to Austin, I completed some of my supervised hours as an LPC-Associate through Lifeworks Austin. As a group facilitator I led groups for court ordered individuals who were charged with domestic violence. Through these groups I was able to help clients learn emotional regulation and coping skills, develop accountability, provide education on healthy relationship functioning, and ultimately foster a safe space for change to occur organically with the hope of a safer community for all. During this time I was also an Associate therapist at Luminary Counseling PLLC, where I slowly built my own independent caseload before completing my hours for licensure in February 2022. Since then I have maintained a full time private practice consisting of both individuals and couples ranging from teenagers to middle aged folks. In January of 2023 I completed training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level 1 and have plans to further my training in couples work in the near future.

You are the ultimate guide on this life path and an expert on yourself. In our work together, I hope to be a trusted sound board to encourage, listen, understand, and reflect all that is you. I incorporate skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness therapy, Transpersonal theory, Humanistic theory, and a Person-Centered approach. I take time in establishing rapport and building trust in our relationship so that deep and meaningful work is able to come naturally. I understand alternative lifestyles and will work with you in a non-judgmental space. I have received training in psychedelic integration and harm reduction, and can help you process experiences you have had while in altered states of consciousness. If you are considering ketamine therapy I am able to provide intentional preparation and integration services only. Questions? Reach out and let’s connect!
